Replacing the HSE's obsolete equipment - 'the elephant in the room'
The Irish Medical and Surgical Trade Association (IMSTA)’s latest White Paper was recently distributed to members and stakeholders. It reflects on the burden of ageing medical equipment within the HSE and makes some budgetary planning recommendations. While this paper focuses on equipment, the inherent and underlying message is that all medical devices and consumables need to be procured from a value-based health care perspective. IMSTA has advised that it will use this report in it’s engagements with government to ensure medical equipment and supplies do not continue to be procured in a haphazard fashion, while continuing to advocate for a uniform system for assessing the value of medical technologies.
